HIway methodology is light and flexible, guiding rather than a prescriptive approach to project management. It provides sound process and practice with supporting templates etc, and is readily adaptable and open to customisation to meet a specific need of your organisation and to facilitate consistent project delivery.

The project manager is in a position of responsibility. Accountability for the organisation’s resources; human and/or financial, makes it prudent to ensure a suitable level of training and support has been provided. A methodology does not replace training; rather the PM must apply their training in their use of the methodology.

Organisations are unique. Consequently no methodology fits into an organisation without tailoring to the specific priorities, objectives and business practices of the organisation. Once the methodology is implemented within an organisation it should be regularly reviewed and updated to cater for:

  • Changes in organisational policies, priorities and business drivers
  • Improvements in the process of managing projects or in the sub-processes
  • Additional areas of focus that need to be captured and included

HIway methodology is independent of but may be readily integrated into software tools capable of supporting project management methodologies.

By implementing the HIway Methodology you will gain a methodology that:

  • Offers a quick-start implementation.
  • Is based on internationally accepted best practices (PMBOK™).
  • Is easily modifiable to specific technical and industrial environments.
  • Is supported by training options that provide a solid foundation to project management theory and practice.
  • Is strongly linked through theory and practice to the internationally recognised project management certification program (PMP®).
  • Enables your organisation to implement and apply suggested processes to maintain and update the methodology to changing needs.

Standards Approach

Harrison International Ltd recognises the importance of standards and is committed to applying these in delivering effective solutions. The Project Management Institute (PMI®) is a recognised leader in the practice. and theory of project management. The Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) represents the cumulative wisdom of many Project Managers spanning multiple industry sectors, from around the world. The PMBOK Guide identifies practices in project management that have been proven effective, irrespective of the technical application area. It has been adopted by ANSI as an official project management standard, and is also available through IEEE.

Harrison International Ltd considers the PMBOK Guide to be an excellent basis on which to base a methodology. The PMBOK Guide defines standard terms that are applicable across many industries and countries, providing a lexicon that facilitates common understanding between all that use it. It is also supported by a large body of resource materials. This results in reduced effort in creating a new methodology, and focuses work on the ‘how’ rather than the ‘what’.

Methodology Layout

The methodology includes:

  • Road Map: a matrix of life cycle phases against management processes, identifying the templates and practices that should be utilised during the various stages of the project.
  • HIway Methodology Document: describes projects, life cycles, project management processes, and provides detail on key processes and tools
  • Templates: outlines of key documents, predefined checklists that aid thought processes, and procedures that enable easy execution.
  • Supporting database: a sample database that provides facility for developing work breakdown structures, identifying and managing risk, tracking change requests, issues and incident tacking, and a number of other facilities.
  • Training Modules: a full list of courses offered by Harrison International Ltd are available separately
  • PMBOK Guide: provides the base knowledge upon which the HIway Methodology has been developed.

Benefits of HIway Methodology
