Stephen Harrison has been awarded the 2004 Distinguished Contribution Award at the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) conference in Anaheim, California USA.

Harrison is well respected by the global PMI community. His distinguished record of service to the project management profession worldwide has included serving 6 years on PMI’s international Board of Directors where he was instrumental in developing the organisation’s strategic direction and globalisation initiatives. He was also the initiating sponsor and founder of PMI New Zealand (PMINZ).

In 1997 PMI awarded him Chapter President of the Year – Region 1 for his leadership of PMINZ. His service to advancing the skills and knowledge of project managers within New Zealand has included developing and conducting the first Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preparation training course for PMINZ. The PMP certification is the most recognised global project management qualification.

“It has been a wonderful privilege helping organisations around the world gain real benefits to their bottom line as they mature and use projects to pragmatically implement leadership vision and strategy.” – Stephen Harrison.

Last month Stephen also gained national recognition in New Zealand when he was made a Fellow of PMINZ, at their annual conference held in Wellington.

Stephen established his own company in 1994. The company (Harrison International Ltd) is a project management training and consulting practice based in Auckland, that specialises in developing organisational and individual effectiveness. He has taught extensively throughout Asia, Middle East, North America, Australia and New Zealand.
